Simulation Helps Reduce Pollution and Enhance Burner Efficiency
Gas burners that heat-treat materials during the manufacturing process are required to adhere to tough emissions standards while requiring high efficently. It is necessary to find the balance between the amount of air and gas in order to meet both conditions.
Tube deflection in these burners can affect flow characteristics and affect operating performance. Creep deflection is used measured using physical tests that can take up to 125 days. Kanthan AB needed a quicker way to measure the possible deflection in a burner design in order to make the proper reccomendations for adjustments to maintain and increase perfomance.
ANSYS Workbench and ANSYS Mechanical were used to simulate this deflection and allowed Kantham AB to make accurate reccomendations to customers for maintenanceANSYS CFX was used to optimize flow behavior, gas mixture control and combustion to meet regulatory standards.
The use of the ANSYS Mechanical and CFX simulation helped Kanthal AB cut out expensive and time consuming lab testing and produced a much more efficient burner, at 10 - 20 percent higher than conventional single ended recuprative burners.
